PHOTO: Lighting Lenin
The Statue of the former Communist dictator came to the Center of the Universe in 1995 by way of Slovakia and Issaquah after it was discovered in a landfill in a former Soviet bloc country. This year, lighting of the statue came with just a small glitch: Someone cut the cords to the red lights hanging from the Bronze image of the former communist dictator. Maybe it was a political statement, maybe it was just vandalism.of blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com
The mantis used its spiny left foreleg to impale the hummingbird through the chest while leaving his right leg free
Though we tend to think of hummingbirds as cute, dainty little things, in reality they make bold and fierce competitors. They don't let their guard down for a moment while defending their territories from other hummingbirds. They must also watch out for other animals that might prey on them, such as American kestrels in North America or tarantulas in South America. Praying mantises are also known to capture and kill hummingbirds
